MTV Video Music Awards: Von drinnen nach überall draußen verlegt!

Eigentlich sollten die MTV Video Music Awards im New Yorker Barclays Center stattfinden. Jetzt aber legen die Veranstalter ein neues Konzept vor.

Wegen der Corona-Pandemie soll die Ende August geplante Verleihung der längst zum Kult gewordenen MTV Video Music Awards im Freien statt in einer Halle stattfinden.

Mehrere Veranstaltungsorte

Es werde deshalb mehrere Outdoor-Auftritte in verschiedenen Teilen von New York entweder ohne Live-Publikum oder nur mit begrenzten Zuschauerzahlen geben. Das zitierte die US-Zeitschrift „People“ aus einer Mitteilung der Veranstalter.

Bei den Shows werden u.a. die südkoreanische Boyband BTS, die Sängerin Doja Cat und der Reggaeton-Sänger J Balvin auftreten. Für BTS ist es der erste Auftritt bei den VMAs, bei denen sie erstmals ihre neuste Single „Dynamite“ im Fernsehen performen werden, die am 21. August veröffentlicht wird.

Show live bei MTV

Ursprünglich sollte die Gala ja am 30. August im New Yorker Barclays Center stattfinden. Doch nach Beratungen mit den Gesundheitsbehörden sehe man nun von einem Event in einer geschlossenen Halle ab, hieß es in der Mitteilung. Der Sender MTV will die von Schauspielerin Keke Palmer moderierte Show live ausstrahlen.

Live zu sehen sind die VMAs in der Nacht vom 30. auf den 31. August ab 01:00 Uhr (Main Show live ab 02:00 Uhr). Am 31.8. zeigt MTV die Main Show nochmals um 19:15 Uhr mit Untertiteln. Weitere Wiederholungen sind täglich zwischen dem 01. und 04. September geplant.

Das sind die Top-Favoritinnen

Ariana Grande und Lady Gaga gehen mit je neun Nominierungen als Top-Favoritinnen ins Rennen um die MTV Video Music Awards. Billie Eilish und The Weeknd haben je sechs Gewinnchancen. Alle vier Spitzenanwärter sind in der Top-Sparte „Video des Jahres“ vertreten. Zudem konkurrieren dort Eminem, Future und Taylor Swift.

Als Trophäe gibt es einen „Moonman“, einen kleinen Astronauten auf dem Mond, der eine MTV-Fahne in der Hand hält.
